Why training is important to me: I struggled with bullying and depression a ton as a kid, especially in middle school and high school. Pretty much constantly after I moved from California when I was 9. I got into multiple fights, had my lunch money stolen, got a few bruises, etc. I felt like the outcast and powerless to change my situation. Luckily, I found weightlifting and saw it for what it was, an opportunity to change my circumstances, albeit a difficult one. To take more control over some of the variables of the chaos that is life. I was tired of waiting for things to change, so I committed to changing them myself. I knew it wouldn’t be instant, but I had hope that it would be inevitable. To this day I’m incredibly thankful to my coach that started me on this path that led me out of darker times, and for the daily opportunities to improve. When I feel most lethargic or unmotivated, I remember where I started, and that all it takes is a bit of effort each day to change everything.

A Peek Into the Programming

Each program follows a basic foundational structure that can be tailored to meet your needs.

The sequence and the movements vary from session to session, but individual workouts typically structured as follows:

Individual Workouts

3-5 Rounds:

  • High Activation and Intensity Lower Body Move (power clean, squat, dead lift, box jump, etc)
  • Back Move
  • Chest Move
  • Leg Move
  • Shoulder Move

In a typical week, you will get 3 blocks (sessions) of workouts. Each session must be separated by at least 48 hours to ensure proper recovery and to reduce the incidence of injury.

Training Cycles

Training cycles typically last about 2 months, depending on your goals.

Coach Koel works to vary the movements and workouts as much as possible to avoid the body becoming accustomed to a specific stimulus. This helps keep your workouts fresh and keep you improving as much as possible.

At the end of a cycle, your coach will deload (reduce your intensity) and transition into a period of testing to prevent over training and to see how you are progressing through the program.

The Origin of Power Block Training

Power Block Training was founded by Jim Griffin, pictured to the right, who has been invited to speak at multiple NSCA conferences regarding his incredible results from implementing Power Block at the high school level.

He spoke in a number of conferences about his tremendous resistance and speed training outcomes.

  • “Training the High School Athlete” in Atlantic City, NJ, 2017
  • “Running Form Analysis & Training Techniques to Remedy Deficiencies and Prevent Future Issues”, Atlantic City, NJ, 2018, and
  • “Improve In-Game Speed Development” in New Jersey highlighting his speed and agility training efforts with high school athletes in New Jersey.

Coach Koel has continued the work, implementing the programming methods with clients without athletic backgrounds as well as athletes from the high school, collegiate, and professional levels with phenomenal success. This programming has changed many lives, it can change yours too in just 3 hours a week.
