An exploration into a novel hybrid linear and undulating periodization model

Coach Koel wrote an article for AARR, Alan Aragon's Research Review, a monthly collection of peer-reviewed research from fitness industry experts. Coach Koel's piece is an in depth look at some of the factors that drive the results of PowerBlockTraining (PBT). Abstract

This paper is an exploration into finding the optimal training program for most people and non-ultra endurance athletes through mediating the repetitions, rest, and loads. Exercise choice and some other variables are also of the utmost importance but for simplicity the scope of this article will exclude variables other than the aforementioned three. As the experimentation was conducted, and subsequent results seen with athletes were outside a laboratory setting, I must preface this paper with a disclaimer. It is certain that the athletes discussed did not have 100% strict adherence to the diet and exercise protocols prescribed to them.

While I personally oversaw many of the training sessions myself, some were conducted by the athletes alone. Additionally, while I will refer back to concepts accepted by industry consensus, some of the proposed mechanisms as to the results are just speculation, and not agreed upon science. In fact, some of what I will hypothesize is in direct conflict with the current scientific consensus. I have observed extraordinary results across the spectrum of ages, sizes, genders, and natural athletic capabilities with PowerBlockTraining (PBT) athletes, which I can only explain through a combination of known and hypothetical mechanisms driving the results.
